EtherCAT – 实时以太网现场总线
近年来，对生产设备通讯系统的需求越来越大。在过去，使用的差不多都是各种不同的总线，而这些总线现在都被简单、功能更为强大的系统所取代：EtherCAT。EtherCAT 以以太网为基础，是机器的核心部分。例如，所有设备的总线周期时间，无论是否分配给 PLC 或 CNC，都是在毫秒范围内。这表示，任何有关性能、确定性、同步性及传统总线系统的拓扑结构方面的限制都已成为过去。设计时间大大缩短，的本地智能控制组件由简单的输入/输出所取代，系统能够根据需要扩展，几乎没有限制，也不会降低性能。另外一个好处就是，大多数情况下，以太网已用于主控计算机的连接或机器联网层面。

概要：无论是那种机器类型需要进行自动化改造，控制硬件都是由工业 PC、EtherCAT（作为高性能总线系统）、本地 I/O 和驱动器 – 其它一切都映射在软件中。
